A couple days ago during Little's babbling, I noticed a glint of light reflecting off the saliva on his lower gums. Wait! It wasn't the shine of drool...but the shine of teeth! He now has two tiny pearly whites, and they seemed to appear out of nowhere. I had heard such horror stories about teething times, that I felt shocked at first to realize these incisors cut through without me even being aware of it--but then I looked it up in the book the pediatrician gave us, and it actually says only occasionally does teething cause unpleasant symptoms. So if a baby seems particularly miserable or has a high fever, it is likely not due to teething and other causes should be explored. Interesting.
I'll try to catch a photo of the little chompers soon.

I think it depends on the child. I know some kids who are horrible sick when they get new teeth. and other {like Brock} have no signs of discomfort. actually Brock only ever got a slight low grade fever when his last 2 molars cam in a few weeks ago. other than that he was/ is happy as a clam. congrats on the new milestone. those first 2 teeth are the best. before you know it he will have a whole mouth full of itty bitty teeth and you will find yourself at awe everytime you see him smile!
How exciting! It's fun when they start getting teeth but then you kinda miss that gummy smile. I had that exact experience with Sydney's teeth. She was ALWAYS drooling and chomping on things and then every once in awhile she'd pop some teeth and I never saw it coming. I hope Kenzie's teething goes as easily. I also understand that they lose their teeth in the same order that they come in, so try to remember the order and you can predict which teeth will fall out next when Lo's about 5.
Aw, cute! And it's great that he didn't have any symptoms. I have to say, though, I don't think it's rare for a baby to be miserable while teething. Fever, maybe (Hazel never had one) but misery? I hear it's almost universal. Sounds like Lo is one lucky boy! :)
Awe! How exciting for lil Lo! I too, miss the gummy smile, but I have loved seeing Claire's two bottom teeth in her sweet smile. I'm so glad you didn't notice any bad symptoms of the teething process because Claire has been a bear...of the grizzly kind :). FYI, I have read that a fever rarely accompanies teething, but a an unhappy baby is common. I was surprised because I heard many times that they get a fever.
Can't wait to see 'em!
Cora also didn't really have any symptoms. Like Sydney Evans, she just drooled and chewed all the time. We did see them coming, though; her gums were swelling. And I agree that those little teeth DO make babies even cuter! Cora's smile is even more adorable now!
