We knew our move to Massachusetts would be less than permanent. However, due to the normal flux of the manufacturing business world, Jerry's next rotation has been expedited. While details are still in-process, it seems we will be settled in a new location by January 2010. Still pending on exactly when/where--though Jerry has interviewed successfully with a division that has talked about sending us to either Ohio or Georgia. Also, this past week we gave notice to our landlord that Dec. 16th is our final day. The lease is proving a bit worrisome because we are cancelling early, so we will all breathe easier when replacement renters are secured. Therefore, anybody in who lives in our area (you know who you are): feel free to pass along word to relevant parties that our most amazing condo is up for grabs. Email or talk to us for more info/pics. Thanks.
Oh, and if anybody has tips for flying/moving with a newborn...?

I'd say just be prepared to feed him on board and don't be too embarrassed about it. Because, number one, it will help his ears adjust to the changing pressure, and, number two, it will help him sleep through it all.
Wow, I can't believe you're moving again! I hope it goes smoother this time as far as getting your furniture sooner and such. Flying with a newborn is really not that bad... they still sleep a lot and don't need a lot of snacks or toys yet. The big thing is to have the baby suck, whether nursing or on a thumb or a pacifier, when you go up and come down. Having a carrier, wrap, or sling is great for having hands free in the airport, but you will have to take it off to get through security. I just read an article about flying with babies yesterday in Parents magazine so maybe you can find tips on their website. If the baby does cry a lot on the plane, don't let people's looks get you down. Most of the passengers will be nice to you but if somebody's rude, just ignore them! It's also nice to ask ahead of time if there's a changing table of any kind on the plane or figure out how you might go about doing that in your seat since he'll still be small.
It's crazy that you'll be moving so quickly. I've heard newborns aren't too bad on planes, they usually sleep. Don't be afraid to nurse on board though.
Wow! What an adventure! You are one tough woman! When we traveled with Mary as an infant she did great. She slept most the time. Actually it seems to be harder as they get older. Keep us posted!
You! I always look forward to your posts. What an exciting life you lead :)
Also - for some reason this strange mission memory popped into my mind. Remember when we were at one of the YSA houses but they were eating dinner and then that one Elder who we all loved but was a bit...odd, suddenly came running out of the house yelling 'Sisters!'. That was good times.
Also - nope. Don't have any flying with a newborn strategies except that on my last trip someone had to walk their baby the whole time up and down the plane because otherwise the baby would cry. So hope that doesn't happen to you!
(And PS. When I first read the title of your post I thought that meant you'd had the baby already. *G*)
Newborns are definitely easy on planes... I would just recommend to not bring as much stuff as you think you might need. I usually just brought him and the diaper bag... the times when I brought my baby carrier and/or other things, it was just too much to handle getting through security, on/off the plane, and dealing with luggage.
hahaha, Holly, the title's effect on you was exactly what I was going for--thanks for validating my effort. Oh, I laughed SO MUCH when we were companions! And now I have the hugest grin on my face remembering that jovial elder. Thanks for bringing back the memory. He really did have a heart of gold, didn't he, along with the unique-ness, like Forest Gump a little bit.
You are leaving us already? That is sad. We will miss you!
I agree with everyone about the plane. All those are really good hints. And your breastmilk should prevent him from any illness circulating in the air. Feed, feed, feed! Try to get a feel for when he is completely done with his diaper because you don't want to be changing it on the plane and him pee on the person next to you! (Mine ALWAYS "tiddled" when I changed him in the beginning. Now I'm pretty good at knowing when he's done messing his diaper and there's no more.) Bring at least two extra onsies and one extra blanket. You don't want to overload yourself, but he'll probably leak and thus dirty not only his clothes but the blanket you have around him. Good luck moving with a newborn baby! It's one of the hardest things I've ever done.
Fabric sling! I took Addy when she was under 3 months and she loved being next to me on the plane and it left my hands free plus can check the carseat (usually free) otherwise you have to pay for another seat. Also sling plus nursing cover makes for a discreet feeding if needed.
